Revised ABC Certification Program Policy: A revision to the ABC Certification Program's policies will affect who is eligible to apply for certification with ABC. Certifications offered by ABC will no longer be restricted to non-mandatory certification programs. Operators/ analysts who work in a state with a mandatory certification requirement for their area of certification may now apply for certification with ABC, as long as they are not applying for a level above which they are currently licensed in their state. An exception will be made in situations where ABC offers a higher level of certification than the state certification program. In these situations, operators/ analysts who are licensed at the highest level in their state may apply for a certification level above that at which they are currently licensed. This policy applies only to mandatory certification programs. Operators/ analysts can apply for certification with ABC at any class level for which they qualify if their area of certification is not mandatory in the state.

ABC Certification Program Policy Change: The ABC Certification Program has lifted its certification suspension in selected certification categories. However, a new policy has been implemented which will affect who is eligible to receive certification through the ABC Certification Program. As of November 1, 2005, ABC will only offer certification to individual operators/analysts in states or provinces/territories where there are no existing mandatory programs. If the state or province/territory where you work does not require mandatory certification for the area of certification in which you are interested, you may apply to ABC for certification. Operators/Analysts working outside the United States and Canada should contact the ABC office about the availability of ABC certification.
This policy change does not affect the renewal of certificates for operators/analysts who are currently certified by ABC. Those who are currently certified by ABC will be able to renew their certificates upon meeting renewal requirements.
ABC will continue to offer certification where there are no existing mandatory programs in the following certification categories: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Very Small Water System, Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Biological Industrial Waste, Physical/Chemical Industrial Waste, Water Laboratory, and Wastewater Laboratory. The ABC Voluntary Certification Process page provides information about the steps that should be taken in order to be certified by ABC.
