ABC Awards Nominations
The deadline to submit 2011 awards nominations has passed.
The Harris F. Seidel Lifetime Achievement Award is the premier award issued by the Association and is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding lifetime contribution toward advancing the cause of certifying environmental professionals. Qualifying contributions for this award include contributions through time and effort; innovative and successful approaches; leadership; development of materials; or any combination of these. The contributions shall be of regional, national or international scope, and of lasting value in enhancing and verifying the knowledge and performance of environmental professionals resulting in a more highly qualified workforce. The recipient need not have been or currently be an operator or a member of a certification board or committee.
- About Harris Seidel: Harris Seidel’s contributions date back to 1972, ABC’s first year and continue to 2009. He is a Past President of ABC (1972-73) and the Water Environment Federation (1963-64). Mr. Seidel previously served on the Iowa Joint Board of Certification and was the Director of Water and Pollution Control for the City of Ames, Iowa from 1954-1991. He continues to serve ABC on a variety of senior and strategic issues, most recently on the Strategic Planning Committee and the Executive Director Search Committee Task Force.
The Certification Program Award is presented to a member certifying authority in recognition of outstanding contribution toward establishing or advancing the certification of environmental professionals. The certifying authority shall have contributed through time and effort; innovative and successful approaches; leadership; development of materials; or a combination of any of these. The contributions shall be of state/provincial, regional, national or international scope, and of lasting value in enhancing and verifying the knowledge and performance of environmental professionals resulting in a more highly qualified workforce. The nominee shall be a member of the Association.
The Robert C. McAnespie Outstanding Certification Officer Award is presented to a member certification officer in recognition of outstanding contribution toward establishing or advancing certification. The certification officer shall have contributed through time and effort; innovative and successful approaches; leadership; development of materials; or a combination of any of these. The contributions shall be of lasting value in improved performance by more highly qualified workforce in their program.
- About Robert McAnespie: Robert McAnespie was a wastewater operator certification administrator in Massachusetts from the early 70’s through the early 90’s and served as ABC President in 1988. He was an ardent supporter of ABC and was active in developing workgroups that have since evolved into the current Validation and Examination committee format. He encouraged the Association to be inclusive of those programs offering environmental control certification and was a proponent of ABC fostering collaboration between these programs while developing high quality certification exams.
The Jess Jones Excellence in Service Award is presented to volunteer(s), or groups of volunteers, in recognition of outstanding service to ABC. The volunteer(s) shall have contributed to the Association through time and effort, innovative and successful approaches, leadership, development of materials, or a combination of any of these. The recipient(s) may be any individual or group who meets the qualifications, need not have been or currently be a member of ABC, and need not have been or currently be an operator or a member of a certification board or committee.
- About Jess Jones: Jess Jones retired from the City of Cincinnati Water Works as Assistant Superintendent after thirty years of public service. Jess was extensively involved in ABC where he served as chair of ABC’s Distribution V&E Committee for six consecutive years. He was recognized for his service with ABC’s 2008 Excellence in Service Award and readily shared his enthusiasm for the organization with others. He also worked as a Backflow Prevention Instructor for the Operator Training Committee of Ohio, the West Virginia Environmental Training Center, and the Ohio Department of Commerce.
