The Association of Boards of Certification

In 1972, water and wastewater industry leaders began conversations that developed the groundwork for an association to foster operator certification throughout North America and reduce the diversity among certification programs. From those early discussions, the Association of Boards of Certification was born.

Today, our Association includes almost 100 certifying authorities, representing more than 40 states, 10 Canadian provinces and territories, as well as several international programs. These programs have certified more than 240,000 water and wastewater operators, laboratory analysts, plant maintenance technologists, biosolids land appliers, and backflow prevention assembly testers.

The Benefits of Membership

ABC serves its membership as a connection to the certification world, a voice for international certification issues, and a tool to build professional relationships.

ABC exists for its membership, giving them a voice on national issues and serving as a conduit for information in an ever-changing industry. Our members and dedicated volunteers, along with our professional staff, continue to work each day to advance water quality and integrity and promote certification as a means of protecting public health and the environment.

Our members are leaders on international issues affecting operator certification, and ABC provides a forum for the exchange of ideas. ABC membership holds lasting benefits.
